If you are infatuated by the world of speciality coffee – from unique lots in Panama, to competition worthy brews, then Standout Coffee Roasters deserves your attention. Standout Coffee is based in Stockholm, Sweden and was founded by barista champions Oskar Garberg and Alexander Ruas.
Standout definitely lives up to is name ‘standout’ by sourcing, roasting and giving the everyday consumer the access to some of the rarest and most articulate coffees in the world.
Here’s why their story, coffee and ambitions really stand out.
Sourcing The Exceptional
Standout Coffee’s ethos has one aim: to bring you coffees that baristas use to win world championships. Co-Founder and CEO of Standout Coffee, Oskar Garberg has said – ‘Our focus is to source and roast the types of coffee that are used in barista and brewers cup competitions.’ By focusing on game-changing micro lots which can yield as little as 10kg, Standout bring rare, exquisite coffees from farms like Gesha village, Café Granja La Esperanza, Finca Betania and many more.
Rather than using distributors or importers, Standout buys directly from the farms and high end auctions, and only roast what they need. This ensures the perfect freshness and flawless flavour, every time you order.

Roasting With Intent
Standouts approach to coffee roasting is like no other. They’re meticulous on detail and thrive on experimentation. Their passion for speciality coffee combines precision roasting with experience, experimentation and conservation for customers all around the world.
Their speciality coffee philosophy defines everything they do – exceptional sourcing, meticulous, expert roasting and a vision to tell a story behind every cup that is brewed.
They aren’t content with traditional flavour profiles and that’s why we at Caretta Coffee love Standout so much.
By pushing boundaries through competing processes, unique fermentation and a creative story telling approach with their producers, and the result? Outstanding coffee with depth, flavour, and clarity that makes you think about every sip.

Standout Coffees Lineups
Having two focus collections:
Competition Coffee: exquisite micro lots, crafted to spotlight complexity, balance and harmony. Coffees that are competition brew worthy.

Their latest arrivals include:
– A washed Ethiopian, Bookkisa, that tastes like peach, tangerine and sweet honey.
– A double fermented Colombian caturra from Los Naranjos that has an orange, jasmine and panela sweetness.
– Café Granja La Esperanza, a Colombian laurina, bourbon and caturra anaerobic natural with a herbal rose aroma and a ripe peach and stewed strawberry mouth feel, and a long juicy finish.
– Standout have many other amazing offerings, but our personal favourite is one of their current competition coffees, which we recently brewed on the origami air s, a mostly and panela honey pink bourbon, which was produced by Colombias very own Linarco Rodriguez. The crazy thing is, I’ve had a lot of amazing coffees in my life and career, but this coffee blew me away. One of the most magical sensory experiences I have ever had. So, if you can get your hands on this coffee, I genuinely recommend you try it out.
For reference, I brewed this coffee on the origami air s dripper, with a flat bottom wave filter paper, 92-degree water, with 17g and four pours – 40g, 120g, 170g, 270g with a brew time of 2:50 and 20 clicks on the comandate C40 so around 868µm.
Innovation Beyond the Cup
Standouts goals don’t just stop at roasting, in August 2025, so literally a couple of weeks ago, they have announced the creation and launch of a coffee studio – a creative community space just across from their roastery, which is intended as a hybrid coffee bar, experimentation space, podcast studio, tasting venue and much more. It promises to broaden their engagement with both their craft for coffee and the local community.
