Maxims De Paris – The La Siene X Espresso Machine

In a gadget filled world where most home espresso machines promise café quality coffee, but always fall short on grind size, consistency and control, Maxim’s La Siene X stakes its claim by combining high-end engineering, mindful automation and a sleek, kitchen counter worthy design. Styled in collaboration with Pierre Cardin – the La Siene X is meant to be both a piece of functional art and a precision tool for coffee enthusiasts and professionals alike.

The La Siene X’s Features and Technology

Here are some standout features that makes the La Siene X more than just another home espresso machine:

MPF Six-Stage Pressure Profiling

This is one of my favourite features and one of the most iconic on the La Siene X.

This technology allows you to program up to six pressure and flow rate stages, allowing control over the pre-infusion time, pressure and flow changes to highlight a lighter roasts acidity or body and a medium roasts sweet clean finish, what ever the coffee has to offer, this feature allows your coffee to thrive.

This is a pro-level control that allows for personalised flavour at home. So really, a café quality espresso at the touch of a button.

PID Precision Temperature Control

With temperature being such an important variable in coffee brewing, the La Siene X offers an independent brew boiler with a multi sensor PID keeping the temperature of the water in the sweet spot of 87-96 degrees celsius with a 1 degree  stability throughout a shot.

The PID gives faster heat up time, a hot group head, which for machines in this price range other brands don’t deliver. Consistency in cup quality, allowing for repeatable performance in every cup you brew.

Smart Milk Temperature auto-stop

In espresso-based drinks – the quality of the milk is also very important, especially the temperature of the milk, if overheated proteins and fats break down resulting in ruined flavour.

The La Siene X includes a non-contacts IR sensor which tracks temperature in real time and automatically stops steaming at your target temperature.

Which can easily be adjusted in the steam settings – producing better, silky smooth microfoam for latte art for all your friends and family.

Pro 38mm Conical Burrset

This is a big one – for most bean to cup espresso machines, the grinder is the primary part that lets the entire machine down.

No being able to grind fine enough for a lot of coffees is a really big issue and one that puts a lot of coffee enthusiasts and professionals off from purchasing the latest bean to cup machines.

But the La Siene X definitely delivers, with the 38mm pro grade conical burrset, it delivers uniform, clump free grinds that preserve flavour, aromatics and nuance. Balanced particle size distribution which help boost clarity and sweetness with every dialled in shot pulled.

And for me, as a coffee professional I love light roast, acidic and fruit forward espressos and the grinder on the La Siene X delivered amazing results with the 70 step precision grind control – and with a bit of tweaking, my favourite coffee from GoldBox Coffee Roasters at hand was dialled in perfectly, delivering café quality espresso in the comfort of my own home.

Real-Time Weight Measurement

With an integrated scale that measures both grinds and another for shots and brew weight – results in a no guesswork, no mess workflow. The La Siene X weighs your shot as it extracts and cuts the pump once your set brew weight is reached which can easily be adjusted in the recipe settings.

Design, Aesthetics & User Experience

The La Siene X is a design collaboration with Pierre Cardin  a high profile design studio, so it isn’t just about perfect function – there’s a strong focus on form. Where French elegance meets precise engineering.

Along with the La Siene X’s elegant design and function, the user interface for controlling extraction modes, adjustments in recipes, weight, time, manual dosing and steam is designed to balance automation and manual control , which is something that every speciality coffee enthusiast wants. The real time scales and the auto stop features also reduce the learning curve for new comers in the world of espresso.

Performance

Based on specs and my daily use of the La Siene X for the past month, here are my performance thoughts:

What you will love:

Consistency – the brew by weight, variable pressure profiling mode, stable mode, steam cut off you get  repeatable shots once your recipe is dialled in.

Versatility – perfect for all user levels, beginners can use standard modes and more advanced users can explore pressure and flow profiling, grind adjustments, precise dosing and calibration.

Speed – with a 3 minute warm up time, big water tank and dual pumps mean you can consistently make drinks back to back with no mess or fuss.

Milk quality

The supersteam – the quality of the milk steaming really is incredible, you’ll be steaming cafe quality silky smooth milk in no time, using the super steam function on the main menu which also has a auto cut off feature once the milk hits the desired and set temperature.

An all in one set up.

A built in grinder, and from using many different coffees, from light, to medium to dark roasts, the grinder performs very well in comparison to other bean to cup machines that don’t grind fine enough.  The La Siene X also comes equipped with all the necessary accessories most machines aren’t supplied with which helps you get started on your coffee journey quicker without having to purchase extra equipment.

Who’s it best suited for?

Here are some ideal customers for the La Siene X

Coffee enthusiasts who want an all rounder and near professional control at home. Those who seek the art of dialling in espresso, experimenting with different roast profiles and tweaking variables for different tastes.

Milk based coffee lovers. Who regularly drink milky coffees like flat whites and lattes and want silky smooth, reliable micro foam with less fuss.

An all in one solution – grinder and espresso machine, all in one. To save counter space, and have a machine that produces great quality coffee without the unnecessary bulk.

Potential weaknesses

If you already own a high quality grinder  – check out our other article on the importance of grind quality in coffee brewing. You may find that the built in grinder is good and  much better than most but not perfect, the burr size and particle size distribution is very important so a larger burrset would create more flavourful espressos but the la siene X still does the job very well. Another separate grinder with a larger burrset would pair very well on the side of the La Siene X for optimal flavour extraction.

Learning time.

To get the best out of this machine, things like pressure profiling, variable mode, grind sizes etc you will need to invest time to understand how to treat certain roast types, dialling in recipes etc. But after all that’s the enjoyment of coffee right?

So is the Maxims La Siene X worth it?

For the serious coffee enthusiast and professionals who want an all in one power house at home, the la siene X really does hit the mark.

Control over extraction, pressure, flow, temperature, grind, dose

Automation is implemented to help enhance consistency not replace skill

Design and quality, the build, finish, styling, accessories all feel premium and the machine really is built to impress and perform.

So if you enjoy the morning espresso ritual and are interested in learning new ways to change the taste of your espresso, using profiles, pressure curves and have the budget. This machine really will be a game changer in your home set up.

And that’s it. My experience and thoughts on the maxims la siene X espresso machine. So far all I can say is I am very impressed and will be sure to update this article when I discover more amazing features. I highly recommend you check it out in time for the official UK release
